Professional Activities:

I am very involved in organized medicine, at the local, state, and national level. I helped develop a new statewide organization for the radiation oncologists in Iowa, and was it's first chairman. I am also active in the Iowa Radiological Society. I have spent many years volunteering my time with the American College of Radiology (ACR), a national organization for radiologists and radiation oncologists. From 1999 to 2006 I served on the ACR Council Steering Committee and in 2006 I was elected to the ACR Board of Chancellors. Through the ACR, we coordinate continuing education for physicians, research and development of practice guidelines and standards, appropriateness criteria for imaging, and political advocacy for the improvement of radiologic care for patients across the country. On the local level, I currently serve on the Wheaton Franciscan Health System-Iowa Board, chair the Covenant Foundation Board of Directors, and have previously served as President of the Covenant Medical Staff.

Medical Interests:

I practice all aspects of general radiation oncology. In our center, we can treat over 98% of the patients referred to us for cancer management. We have a special interest in skin cancer, an area of radiation oncology not handled in many community centers. In addition we treat certain benign conditions such as hyperthyroidism, heterotopic bone formation and keloids. I have a particular interest in palliative medicine, which is the management of symptoms associated with cancer and cancer treatment. Because of that interest, I was on the subcommittee that wrote the Palliative Care section of the Scope of Practice White Paper, written by the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO). I also serve on the Cedar Valley Hospice Governing Board.

Personal Interests:

I have 3 cats at home named Honey, Muffin and Shy. I am an avid scuba diver and a fan of University of Iowa Basketball. I am very active with the University of Iowa Foundation and their scholarship programs, and also have a scholarship with the local Dollars for Scholars fund.
